I said it to Jazz a little while ago, and I think it applies in this case too (but for different reasons).

Age, driving record, credit rating, and car model. I'm 23, had my license for 6 years with only one ticket and no accidents, pretty good credit, and driving a 12 year old minivan. My insurance is $300 every 6 months.

Since you don't have your license yet, you've got no driving record. I'd venture a guess you haven't been trying to build your credit. You're also likely trying to insure something a bit more sporty than a minivan, no?

I don't have my license yet? How very dare you. I passed my test yesterday.

And something sporty? Lol no, 1.1 Peugeot 206/1.1 Citroen Saxo. Definitely not anything modified, sporty or fast.

The scenario is different everywhere though.
Over here, for example, everybody has to pay registration fees for their vehicle every year (or you can split pay every 6 months). These fees are the same for everybody (regardless of age), but there are some discounts for pensioners and the like.
The rego fee includes CTP (Compulsory Third Party) insurance.....this covers "injury or death caused by their vehicle to another person".

If you want insurance for your vehicle itself, that's up to you (you aren't legally obliged to have it).
So you can go without insurance, or get third party (covers damage to other vehicles but not your own), or third party fire & theft, or full comprehensive insurance (complete cover).
I'm pretty sure that covers the options (but I may have missed something).

Insurance isn't all that expensive really...in the past it was even cheaper (of course).
I've had numerous driving offences (never drink or drug related though), licence suspended a couple of times & cancelled once, but I never had any problems with insurance...even with modified cars

It's a bit tougher on young people here now though.
    Oh well, not my problem
