Hell, I gave it a try...read a bit, watched a little....found it to be formulaic and watered-down...the 'old Merlin-like wizard', the giants, the dragons, the 'pageboy'...blah, blah, blah...been done before, and a million times better. Your basic Joseph Campbell/Hero of a Thousand Faces stuff...
Seems more geared towards kids, no?

It is a beloved property, though...I know many diehard fans from ages 10-70ish, so....
