It's a nice change for the bad guys to win, it makes a show interesting.

Although I will admit Light's downfall in the last episode was GLORIOUS.

Yeah, but seeing the Task Force stop Kira on their own would've been pretty badass.

Not entirely sure on that, but the reason why I stopped reading when L died was because that meant there was no decent foe for Kira.

I always thought that the chief would find out his son was Kira, but then they killed him while Light had given up possession of the notebook

totally agree with that. in the beginning it made it seem like L was one of a kind, and it was a match between Kira/Light vs L, but when Kira beat him, and they brought in Near and Mello, it made L that much less significant.
