I don't really care too much for anime, I used to like it more when I was younger, now not so much, I've watched a few series over the past year but I think that tv shows are in general better.
A good (see: not totally half assed) english dub is no worse than the average japanese dub. Just saying.

Which doesn't even get into the fact that a lot of comedy is in the delivery/timing. If you're watching a comedy and only able to understand it through subtitles you are decidedly doing it completely wrong.
