I think you are partially right. With the technology they have for digital cable systems now, I believe they can glean pretty decent ratings by polling the cable boxes to see what channels are being watched, and when.

Tbh i think most channels should utilize things like crunchyroll and other shows that use online streaming with commercials at the correct points. Because its easy for me as i can watch what ever when ever. I take it to the point to where if possible i use crunchyroll and other sites like it instead of sites that are hosting upon videoweed ect. without commercials for the fact it does help support the industry.

But if they try to do what hulu says they are going to do i won't use them. Assuming its not just a rumor that hulu wants to make it to where you need to show proof you own cable television to stream the videos.
