Personally, I think MC getting back to Earth at the end would've been a perfect ending to the series.

Being a Forerunner planet, there's a chance he can make his way back. Set the Ark to build a Keyship, find one of the planet, lots of possibilities.
I'd be pretty pissed if they ended the series with Chief dying.

I have to admit... The game will probably be pretty good.
But it's a shame they just didn't end the Halo franchise there.
The ending of Halo 3 was just beautiful.
It would have been an amazing conclusion to an amazing game.
Prose is an art form, movies and acting in general are art forms, so is music, painting, graphics, sculpture, and so on. Some might even consider classic games like chess to be an art form. Video games use elements of all of these to create something new. Why wouldn't video games be an art form?
