Default Persona 3 FES on PCSX2 crashes when heading to the library

Ok, I'm new to emulation and I'm not as well-informed on it as most of you probably are.

I've played through Kingdom Hearts 2 and most of Kingdom Hearts 1 well enough, although every game seems to run really slow despite having decreased its performance.

Right now I'm playing Persona 3: FES on PCSX2, and I'm on the day where the bookstore (not the library, accidentally goofed on the title) opens. It tells me to go to the bookstore, near the station, and every time I get there the game suffers an Appcrash. All of this is being done on my laptop which is admittedly not that great, but so far everything runs except this exact point in the game. Don't know anything about debugging and I have no idea how to solve my problem. I'll get some screenshots up when I finish posting this, it only just occurred to me that it might help, but my computer is set up like so:

Processor: AMD Turion X2 Dual Core Mobile RM-72 2.10 GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (3.75 GB usable)

64 bit Windows 7 operating system. DirectX is up to date, and so are drivers, checked those when I downloaded PCSX2 a week or two ago. It can't be that my system is necessarily incompatible, since it runs fine any other time and new games will make it to that point, right? It's just something wrong with the ISO file I assume, so I'm going to try to recreate it and see if that works. Any advice on how to get past this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for reading.

The ISO could be the issue, are you perhaps using the undub version of the game? or the clean one?

Also, which PCSX2 version? any changes to the emulation settings? and did you use savestates before the problem happen?

PCSX2 0.9.8, I never use save states, and I've changed the settings to lower quality so that I could actually run the emulations.

Could one of the speedhack settings be affecting it? Or the GS settings? Maybe restoring to default settings might set it right, even if the game slows down. I also considered opening the debug window, but the entire PCSX2 program shuts down when I reach that spot in the game.

    This.

SuperReed - check this before you proceed! If the image isn't the undub version, verify the hash value with that on redump.org and see if they match. If they do, it's a clean a dump and the problem is emulator related. If not, obtain a clean image.

If the disc is an undub, I'm not sure. I know it plays to completion on hardware. I'm not familiar with emulator settings so perhaps someone else can help you there.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the hash value?

The entire game's in English, if that's what you mean by dub or undub.

I'm still very new to the emulation thing.

Download and install QuickSFV and generate an .sfv/.md5 file for the ISO (right-click on the ISO and select "Create SFV file..."). Once complete, open the .md5/.sfv files with notepad and check the CRC/MD5 values you've generated with those listed on redump.org.

If the values match, you'll know it's not a problem with the image.

Undub version comes with text in full english, but the voice is in Japanese.

Just wanted to know if you're using one, since the undubbed one was known for causing freeze/hang/black screen if you play it on PCSX2, as well on the real console.

Voices are in English too, but that's good to know. I'll make a point to be more cogniscient of things like that.

Haven't installed QuickSFV yet but I'm working on it on my next off-day. Decided to bide my time by finishing up Kingdom Hearts.
