Agreed, although in this case it seems half the games are N64 remakes, the only difference being they now have a 3D effect. Definitely going to be sticking with my old DS for the time being.

More than anything though I really just want to punch whoever thought it was a good idea to region lock a handheld console.

Yeah, I see no reason to get a 3DS yet myself.

And yeah, region locking sucks. If someone wants to play a game in another language who cares? I understand protecting sales and whatnot but it's pretty obvious that some games will never see releases outside of Japan and it's annoying that I have to find ways to bypass region locks. PS3 did it right.

I've been doing some thinking, and have drawn some conclusions today:

1. Handhelds aren't actually treated as viable "consoles" by their makers... they're mini-consoles for kids to drool on while bolting energy drinks and eating cookies. This view of mine is supported both by the type of games released for them, and by the brown gunk I cleaned out from around the buttons of my recently-purchased PSP-2000. ICK.

2. Looking at both the 3DS and the Wii-U, I think "Big N" may just be out of ideas. I agree with the statement that most 3DS titles are N64 ports (poor ones, at that) and that it leans heavily on the 'virtual console' for support.

3. Considering statement #2, I predict we're heading for another video-games crash like the one back in the 80's. Lack of creativity killed 'em in '83... and with many games being similar and pandering to the lowest common denominator, I think the industry is headed back that way. But hell, it was a good run of over 25 years...

Indeed, it is such a shame really. There are developers like Kojima that breathed more life on the PSP with Peace Walker, making it the longest Metal Gear Solid, but you are right actually. I've got a PS Vita, as I've said already, and didn't get the 3DS because of the unappealing choice of games (Yeah, there's Zelda and Resident Evil, but I can wait for them). I found the PS Vita way more attractive and besides didn't have much choice getting it as my brother already ordered it.

PSVita is pretty cheap here but I can't really see why I'd use it. I have a 360 for home and an Android for on the train and bus with N64 emulators etc. I also still have a PSP which has been sat there untouched for over a year. Hmm.
