The original Conan novels were some of the first fantasy books that I read as a kid. Most modern fantasy books just seem too "kiddy" or "whimsical" to me.
Hell, I can't even get into JRR Tolkien's novels, I did read The Hobbit though. Tried to read the Lord of the Rings, but I couldn't even get halfway into the Fellowship of the Ring.
