Yep, pretty much. Unfortunately that's the way it goes when you're going for entry-level jobs. Unless you happen to know someone. What about a fast-food/restaurant job? Those are the places with the highest turn-over. It's not fun work, but it IS a paycheck.

A lot of times a restaurant won't even advertise online that there is a job opening. Maybe if they're looking for management or something. Not usually for entry-level jobs though. Sometimes you just have to go out and apply to a bunch of places. Then even if they don't have an opening, they at least have your app on file.

The fact someone apparently needs experience to operate a cash register is just indicative of how fucked the modern job market is. Sales work is meant to be entry level. It's like a fast food restaurant with less grease. Or more, seeing as you're looking to work in a games shop.

If they have the choice and they do because of the high unemployment rate they will take the guy with tons more experience.
