    Default FF8 bin/cue problems...

hey guys, it's the damned bin and cue files...i downloaded final fantasy 8, unzipped, unecmed and got a bin file. now the instructions said that the bin file should be mounted with daemon tools then run CD rom in the emulator. but i get a black screen. so i figured, it's those bloody cue sheets again. so after a bit of googling, i found this http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,4395075 the MakeCue application. so using this i got the cue files but again, mounting on DT and running it leaves me with a black screen. those cues are 1kb each. is that normal? also, those cues, when mounted, are empty.

I found this post, from Zorlon http://www.epforums.org/showthread.p...-And-APE-Guide
    this bit i don't understand:

did you by any chance download the E version? if so its copy protected, you need to download the NTSC-U version, there is no difference apart from it runs at 60 fps and there is no copy protection, for the cue&sbi file, you download this open up the file with your favourite un archiving software (Winrar, 7zip etc..) and then just find your game and copy and paste the .cue file to wherever its needed, just for an extra note the NTSC-U version is here

When you extracted the file, did it not have a cue sheet to begin with? You do not need to make one if it came with one, so you should not have two. Also, you are supposed to mount the .cue IIRC. And yes, the .cue is supposed to be that small. It is quite literally a cue sheet; text that details the information on the disk (in this case, the .bin).

For most Square games, it is recommended to use either 1.5.2 or 1.6.0. Take a look through this guide.

if you take a double check he did actually mount the cue file afterwards, also 1.7.0 works fine you just need to use petes old open GL which ill get you the link for in a moment so that you can set the offscreen drawing to 2-3 so you can see the battle menus

    EDIT
    Link is here

You just need to uninstall Daemon Tools Lite and re-install it making sure the SPDT drivers are also installed when asked during the Daemon Tools install

The above advise is ok but with Daemon Tools without SPDT you will always get a black screen every time you mount a disc image with it and try to get ePSXe to read it (This is something in new version of Daemon Tools so all of my guides are not updated with this info yet)

as for cue's yeah the file size is normal also never try and use an external prog to create one, it will fail with any game that has more than just a data track, alot also have cdda tracks (sound tracks)

all a cue sheet does is tell whatever prog is reading it, what tracks are contained in the bin file (as it happens FF8 only has one track anyway)

why you wouldn't understand download a file and open with 7zip is beyond me...

E = Europe that happens to have english in it

U = USA that also is in english

If you don't want to download all the CD's again though you can just use the patch file in the patches folder of ePSXe found at http://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?67412
