Oh, definitely. Chrono Cross comes to mind. I like the game for what it tries to be (a sequel to Chrono Trigger that stands on its own, not simply Chrono Trigger 2), but it seems like they only remembered it was supposed to be a game halfway through development and god damn what the hell is going on fuuuuuuuuu

Here is a great article about the game. It actually made me want to play it again, despite knowing the horrors that await me.

Poor Final Fantasy sucks these days you know i luved that series up until recently.

Im in too other RPG's like Tales because the battle system and the cooperative mechanics kick ass and FF should do something like that.

Who wouldn't like running up and freaking Omnislashing the hell outta everyone with an extra boost from your friends DUH!
Layin down enjoying the fun unleashing the power of the sun and capturing them all until I'm done.

Hilariously enough, FF Type-0 does just that. There's real time action-oriented battle system a la The Third Birthday and co-op multiplayer during missions.

Seems like the box art gets more generic every time they release a new one. Isn't the latest cover just some dude with a sword?

You mean XIV? That's an MMO, therefore it doesn't count. It's not the latest FF, though.

Err, isn't that Lightning? Pretty sure she's not a "dude". Seriously, males in Final Fantasy look more like this or this.
    Err...

Still not as bad as Calintz in Magna Carta. I know it's hard to believe, but he's a dude.

Wow, that's pretty impressive. I really wouldn't have realized it. Well, when in doubt, I always end up consulting a little table I found.

I wouldn't call it quantity over quality. One game every 2 years isn't a lot. I've kept up with FF games religiously, and I can say for a fact that their quality is always top-level

    Isn't it a bit obvious that he's a man? Hairstyle+Hands+Figure=Man

Anything that comes in yearly installments doesn't seem to improve much, IMO... I wish more developers would take their time and release extremely polished games, instead of popping out a new game every year to make more money.

FF is a bit different to most franchises in that respect though - unlike, say, Madden where you're gonna get roughly the same game each time or Sonic where you're tied not just to genre but to particular core gameplay elements, Final Fantasy doesn't really indicate much more than a few carryover setting elements (Chocobos, Summons, Tonberries and some guy named Cid) and a genre (sometimes not even that). It'd be trivial to simply attach the FF name to whatever traditional RPG is coming out of the programmer farm at the right time and looks like it'll have reasonable quality.

    AWESOME!

You gotta play FF XII. it may not have the best story or characters, but at least it is full of extras. An entire world map for you to explore (on foot!), visit cities on them (you SEE the city, not just an icon, you actually walk around an open world like in an MMO), not to mention the final hunt (Yazmat) and Gilgamesh (yes, he's back! ). The espers are really cool. You once again have to hunt for them all (the ones that are not part of the main storyline), and fight them so that they can lend their powers to you!
So, FF XII is a great game. There's still hope for the FF series!
One problem though is that they either focuse on the story and characters or the extras. That's the problem we had with both XII and XIII. Even though XIII had a beautiful presentation and the world of Pulse for you to explore, it had an awful first impression that made players not play it to the end or at least to play it till they get to Pulse.

We'll see when they release FF XV. It will be the next FF VI (or VII for those who love VII to death). it will have great characters, great storyline, an awesome OST composed by both Masashi Hamauzu and Uemastu Nobuo. Yes, Nobuo is legendary, but he's not the only best composoer out there you know!
I remember the attempted Fan Remake of Chrono Trigger. . .and Square threatening to sue the group(who was doing it for free) if they didn't stop. . .

One FF I'd love to see being remade with modern graphics in all its possible glory - Final Fantasy VI. Kefka ripping the planet a gigantic new one would be awesome.

One thing that still irks me about FF XII is that the party control wasn't what I had thought it would be. I had hoped it would be full character control like in a .hack or full 3-D Zelda game. Nope, it was only half-full control.
