Yeah I understand this aspect, I just can't afford to keep making standard decks to be active and play in FNM. And I hate running the same deck (which I could do).

I'm looking into official Modern tournaments. With the banning of Wild Nacatl and Grove of the Burnwillows the format appears to be wide open.

Yeah I want to watch it, but so far none of the downloads I nabbed have worked. So much hurr durr.

I ended up selling a lot of my collection off, made a pretty penny too, but it would be even harder for me to start playing physical magic again with out it.

Yeah my initial cash out was pretty big because it was 6 or so years of building up cards. I never really kept more than a couple decks when I was in and out.

Oh and just in case you looked and were wondering why Grove of the Burnwillows would be banned well...Punishing Fire...

Wizards doesn't like it when everyone is playing the same deck.

I kept a few cards that will always be good, a few beta and revised duals mostly.

What format is this that burnwillow was banned in?

Modern. It's somewhat like extended, but more is in play, and much less is in play than Legacy. It and Legacy are my favourite formats. I obviously can't afford Legacy lol.

Ravnica block shock lands are king in Modern. Or any other format where they are legal and the old dual lands are not. Which is basically only Modern right now iirc.

Rav duals were always good because they were a substitute to the original duals which were too good, while also complimenting the original duals.

I still have a few decks laying around. I still fucking love EDH.

I never got into EDH. The deck min was 100 cards right?

I still love Legend of the Five Rings but the closest place to me that ran official tournaments closed down. I was so disappoint...

Yeah, 100 cards, not including the general. A lot of the card/hobby places have closed down around here as well, guess their just isn't a market for it.

There are still plenty of places near me to play magic if I wanted to. Though probably not Modern tourns, probably have to go to KC for that.

Legend of the Five Rings is easily my favourite card game. I still have all my cards and will play with friends. I just don't want to drive 100 or so miles to play official tournaments.

Lol that would be for LO5R only. I can play official competitive magic like 15 minutes from my house and I live in a rural area lol.

    Pretty much.

It seems like I can build an elite Modern deck right now for $60. And that's mostly the lands. Surely when it dominates the format the prices of the key rares (all 2 of them, 3 copies of each) will go up.

Chase rares are the best. Actually chase uncommons are even better.
