    Exclamation Vita is already hacked!

The PS Vita just hit store shelves in Japan yesterday and not to our surprise, hackers are already fiddling with the device. teck4 reports that the PS Vita is still vulnerable to a save game exploit present in PSP firmware 6.31. Above is a photo of the PS Vita running a ‘Hello World’ application inside the Vita’s PSP environment.

We’re filing this under rumor for now, seeing as the work in question has not been published, but it looks legit.

Given that the PS Vita runs PSP code inside an emulator, which chances are is completely sandboxed, it seems unlikely that privilege escalation is possible. Time will tell however.

I wish they wouldn't report on this stuff, even if it's just a rumor :\. It gives Sony plenty of time to fix the issue.

At this point I wouldn't be surprised if it were real. There are some hackers with crazy skill out there... as the PSP scene has proven many times now. Still, there are plenty of fakes too.

When the vita is running code from an older psp firmware. Of course its going to be exploitable.

As a cryptography and computer security expert, I have never understood the current fuss about the open source software movement. In the cryptography world, we consider open source necessary for good security; we have for decades. Public security is always more secure than proprietary security. It's true for cryptographic algorithms, security protocols, and security source code. For us, open source isn't just a business model; it's smart engineering practice.

haha nice move Sony, first you delay a release till right after the holidays, because hey, that's when everybody buys a lot of stuff... not. But yeah you do release a new "revolutionary" handheld. Oh wait you don't because you just combinend an I-pod touch, A wii controller and ps1/2/3 controller (they're basically the same) and It has just been proven that you pasted some old OS from a previously flawed handheld (flawed when viewing the sales, not the quality because I like the psp) onto your new one. funny thig about that is that they most likely knew the OS was hacked and still released it. (idiot sense is tingling). If they didn't know it was hacked that just makes them look even worse. just type in "HACK PSP" in google. Not that difficult is it?

Anyway can't wait to have one for the ps2 support but I really think a company like sony can do lots and lots better than they are doing right now.

Speaking of bad moves, The Vita NEEDS a memory stick, and thanks to scumbag Sony, you have to buy it separate.

This statement makes me think that the "Hello World" program is actually a PSP program, not for the Vita itself. I think what you are seeing is the Vita running in PSP mode.

I heard this is happening alot. The Vita randomly freezes up. to fix it, you have to remove the batteries, but to do that, you have to pop open the Vita.

If it happens a lot, that's kind of a deal breaker.

Lol, yeah, but people are still mad about it. Even the 3DS comes with a free SD card.
