Unless you're trying to run something intensive at max, max AA, on a really high resolution, I think a single 6990 would work .

I heard that some games don't take advantage of Crossfire, any truth to that? ALT+Tab is all I need .

Not really. However, some games take more advantage than others. Sort of like when dual core processors first started coming out.

Only if the program is designed for it. I prefer to just use my CPU for encoding.
