The original Mountain Dew is banned by EU law. Lucky Charms are also banned by EU law. I haven't eaten Lucky Charms for about 15 years.

It must be something with the sugar. How about discontinued stuff? Remember the Winner Taco?

I don't know if they were popular in the UK, but sure as hell they were in Italy. (Was born there and lived until I was 13) It got discontinued there too. Saw the advert for Gino Ginelli. It's the absolute stereotypical cheesefest of an advert, representing Italians. But it's the 90's so it's alright.

Ahhhh...its an ice cream thing...cool. I was thinking that it would be a Taco Bell-type crapola...

What is an 'Ashin'? Some sort of chocolate treat?

I think maybe the only country that tops the UK in terms of those pound/dollar stores is Mexico. Wow, wow, wow... every time I cross the border and hit the 'discount bins', I am amazed and delighted. The bizzare action figures/monsters/bootleg game crap/etc. that I have grabbed down Mexico way has been the coolest and most bizarre stuff.

Always had good runs in Canada, as well. Around Hartford/Quebec area, I have found tons of great pop culture stuff that had NO business being in a ".99 Bargain" bin...

Englebert, Italy until you were 13, eh? I am assuming that you are a younger person, early 20s....do you know of a toymaker by the name of Giochi Preziosi? Are you old enough to recall the Exogini monsters and aliens?

In fact, I think that Preziosi is still pushing the small, Kinkeshi-type figures of different kinds, after all of these years...

GREAT stuff....if you like those sorts of odd things....

The thing about those pound shops is that you can get the stuff they sell elsewhere for cheaper. It's a clever marketing ploy against the unenlightened.

Anything Italian is bound to be a cheesefest. It's the law. Here is one of the coolest adverts I remember as a kid.

They replaced Geoffrey with a star on the signs outside the shop though, meaning I never stepped foot in there again.

Maybe in the UK, man, but not many of the ones we frequent. Sure, there are the 'strip mall' ones and that crap, but the GOOD ones, I love.
I have found ridiculous things over the years...NY is king for 'em, too. Electronics, current action figures, foods, candies, household stuff, comics, mags, tools, and more!
Just recently, one near us had precision screwdriver sets for $1, as well as multi-packs of spices and herbs, among other things...

If you KNOW what you can EXPECT for a whopping dollar, you can find some great, handy things...
(Fresh, name-brand ciggys, candies, ear buds that I have had for years now, gloves, kitchen items....)

That reminds me of Chinotto, and I wrote about this on another forum. Actually that's the only time I talked about it on the Internet. It's a fairly unknown drink here, and it's just sold in Italy by San Pellegrino (that famous Italain water, y'know). It can be considered a mix between Coke and Tonic Water. Apparently it's made also in Canada, and some Latin countries. I've got a stash on them, as they are quite pricey to get.
Here's an entry on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinotto_%28soft_drink%29
