Repairing a broken hinge is exceedingly simple to do on your own, you just need a couple tiny little screw drivers and some replacement housing.

The lack of powering on, however, could have a variety of causes. Some simple, some not so.

^ For sure. As far as 'simple', though, not for me...my hands are like baseball mitts...not really the 'fine detail' sort.

I wont be the one taking it apart, thats for sure. Worse case scenerio, I end up with a cool $5 'DS paperweight', so what the hell, eh?
I wont abandon hope until I have spoken with a few folks about it....

    Magnetic screwdrivers help with that.

Is there any response at all when you try to power it on? Could be that one of the screens isn't connected properly, or it could be a blown fuse, among other things.

Magnetic help, indeed, but no way in hell....those little "guts" scare me....

It powers ON, FAST, and then straight OFF again. I can see a tiny patch on the left hinge where (what looks like?) copper backing/foil is poking through....

I can take detailed pics of the affected area....or at least as 'detailed' as my 5-year-old camera will display....

Also just a stab in the dark here but does anyone have a save for Paper Mario? Mine got corrupted and my progress is lost, I was getting pretty far. Just at the beginning of chapter 6.

Never played 'Paper Mario'. Love the Mario games, I'll give it a go....
I'll tell you, that Luigi game that Big N showed during the last show looked g-r-e-a-t.....

What you're seeing sounds like the ribbon cable from the lower screen. And if the screen(s) flash white when you try to power it on, it's probably just that the ribbon cable has slipped loose and needs to be reattached.

And, of course, that stupid cable is the most obnoxious part.

Hm. I've done my fair share of DS repair for my own system and for my siblings'. But it's been at least a year since I worked on one or read about any of it, and without seeing it I can't be terribly sure what's going on unfortunately.

Aaaah the £10 beauty + games. Bought at a car boot sale, along with a Sonic plushie. Can also pay Japanese games, thanks to the 3in1 cartridge.
Nah, I don't want his kidney. I wonder what kind of drinks it went through.
