    Default pokemon leafgreen codebreaker code problems

    Well basically i'm trying to use the codes for modifying random encounters. So far on VBA i just get a black screen when i get into an encounter, and VBA-M simply reboots the game when i get into an encounter. The codes i've been trying to use are from gamefaqs for reference purposes. On a side note i've tried looking up gameshark codes but didn't really find what i was looking for in them, and VBA and VBA-M dont support action replay codes so those are out of the question.

    Anyway heres a screenshot of basic codes to encounter a level 6 caterpie. I've tried to change the level of the pokemon, this results in the codes acting like they're disabled. I've also tried changing which pokemon is encountered, which seems to do nothing.

    try the other region version of the game first

    hmmn? you mean the japanese region of it? i dont know if my file can be translated from US to japanese. Even if it could be, i can't read japanese, and certainly dont want to have to study up to be able to read whats going on in the game.

    okay i'll look into that, and edit this post in an hour or so.

    EDIT so far i've only found the europe version which also says "revision A" on it. Going to try to translate the save over to it then try out the codes.

    EDIT AGAIN
    Okay first thing the game did was ignore the codes(used ones from image above) since a pidgey appeared. About the time my pokemon finished appearing on the screen, everything turned quite corrupt looking and i was forced to close out the emulator.

    UPDATE!
    Okay after doing a lot of digging around for different solutions on google i found out that if you put in action replay codes as "gameshark" codes they apparently work just fine. So i'll just use them to catch the various pokemon not in my version. On a side note though it looks like i can only use them for pokemon 1-151 the codes that require a V3 or higher action replay(which is the other pokemon and some other codes) apparently will not work.

    lol yeah Action Replay and GameShark are the same (GameShark was the original name for the Action Replay in the US, was always called an Action Replay in the UK though)
    as is Codebreaker to Xploder/Xplorer they are the same cheat system, codebreaker being the US name of the Xploder/Xplorer that was the european name for the same device

    Codebreaker may be the answer though instead of Action Replay/GameShark

    Edit asides from the Master code that is slightly different the codes seem to be the same, ActionReplay/GameShark codes are normally coded but those that you shown in the screen shot are in raw format, that is typicle of Codebreaker format, though both can use raw and coded codes

    Well since my last post i've found that using a mixture of action replay codes(guide from gamefaqs) and some gameshark codes(look on supercheats) i can now gain access to any pokemon i want. The codes that require V3 AR and up in the gamefaqs guide still don't work but thats why the gameshark codes. Also i wasn't reading closely enough before i can use the AR codes from that guide for all generation 1 and 2 pokemon, leaving only generation 3 ones that have to be gamesharked in.

    In any case the big thing i'm looking for now, is how to force pokemon like graveler to evolve. Seems how i still can't establish linking i currently can't evolve cases like graveler haunter etc. I would imagine theres a simple flag somewhere in the games memory that could be tripped to fix the problem. Too bad i cant hex edit to go looking for it.

    Well using an editing tool, you can change the way they evolve. An example would be making Graveler evolve at level 38 into Golem.
