    Recently, I went back and played most of the Rare games, mostly for the N64.

    And man, they aged really really terribly. I thought they were cool when they came out, but by today's standards they're just awful.

    Goldeneye being the worst, others like Donkey Kong 64, Diddy Kong Racing, etc.

    The only exceptions are Banjo Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day.

    Yes! Games with a reason to play them besides being online.

    Yeah, I kind of miss the old RARE team of the late 80's through the late 90's. They had a long run, with many top notch games, but as others have pointed out, I doubt many on the old team are with the current team. Especially considering the track record over the past decade or so. One of my favorite RARE games of yesterday, is Banjo-Kazooie. In many ways B-K topped (at the time) the king of 3-D platformers Super Mario 64, still it would have been a close call between them for me. I remember Goldeneye being a very popular game, especially for it's multi-player feature...how times have changed. I would miss those days more, except honestly I am enjoying a number of games for the current gen of consoles. I am a huge Nintendo fan, Sony fan, etc., but two of my favorite game developers over the past 15 or so years especially, are Capcom and Namco.

    i had a virtual boy at some point, still have a few games but not the machine. pretty good games for the time but using that thing could hurt your neck, better to use emulators for it.

    oh and it had the first wario land game i think

    I only hope Retro Studios turns into 90's Rareware, they have the skill and originality.

    Goldeneye/Perfect Dark were supreme, followed closely by THQ/Aki's WWF No Mercy series. TBH, it was HARD to find decent competition at Goldeneye. The best match I ever found was my buddy Brandon. He would PWN me hard with guns, in general 10-2 or worse, but he would rage a little when I popped a headshot with the PP7 from 30+ meters. And then we would switch to rockets and it was my turn to win 10-2.

    I went to Jeremy's place and played some Perfect Dark, slaughtered everybody, so his roommate was like "BRAG!" He said 1-shot kills, I will pwn u. I said LoLKK. Then I massacred him. I had played the training sim with 1-shot kills against the Perfect Sim who drops you and aims at your next spawn point while you're still falling, so John was no problem.

    And I got used to playing No Mercy against my brother and cousin. I spazzed on the buttons so hard they couldn't pin me, and after a half hour or so I could finally win a match. Throwing them into each other until they stayed down was key, as was running to corners to escape from them.

    Good Times!

    Playing with people who aren't in the same room is so impersonal. Why have friends if you're not going to get together in the same room to play?

    You don't have to.

    Mupen64++ at goldeneyeonline.com

    REAL netplay. Majority of roms just sync.

    Includes a great kaillera client where you can favorite servers (go for the ones without much Emulinker presence), and p2p !

    And swap the crappy included Glide Wonder for Glide Napalm 1.0 for a start. Great enhancer and fixes the few roms that'll need it (wcw nwo revenge, Mario Parties)
