Come to think of it, Ray, didn't we figure the first chapter was the hardest? Everything else seemed to be quite a bit easier, if I recall (yes, even the Jill and Wesker fight)... Or am I misremembering?

It was. Mostly because you are really not armed for that area at the time. The second level throws a lot of additional weapon types at you, and once we had a decent loadout and weren't locked in a small area with shitloads of insta-kill enemies on all sides we had a much easier time. By the time we had decent long range gear we had hit our stride.
