Driving off road sounds awesome though. Plus, I would love to be a rally driver anyway.

I don't suppose you drive a Lancia Stratos do you?

    No.
I had an old ford escort once........a 2 litre one (not an RS2000 though).
And I had a 1971 Fiat 124 sport coupe with the full 1.6 litre twin cam + dual weber carbs (basically the factory rally spec).

Like this, but mine was white and had chrome bumpers......

Probably the only stuff I've had that would have existed over there........and well before your time

2 litre Escort. I'm guessing old style though? I want an Escort Cosworth.

Why did you get rid of the Fiat 124?

Lovely car that, seen someone towing one on a trailer a few months back. Must have been going rallying in it or something.

It was a bad time in my driving "career"

The car itself was known by the local constabulary and as such I was constantly harassed.
It was slightly modified when I had it.

I rebuilt the engine, it had a high compression ratio (about 12 or 13:1 IIRC) and I was running it on aviation fuel (higher octane rating).

It also had lowered suspension.......lower than the legal requirement at the time.

Close ratio 5 speed gearbox, and a locked differential (not limited slip.....locked) which had a 4.4 ratio.
I ran 245 width tyres on the rear which filled the wheel wells perfectly.

This meant it didn't have a really high top speed, but was a killer with acceleration

It was pretty quick for an old car.........but wouldn't stand up to decent modern performance cars now.

Sometimes I regret that I sold it.

Yeah, sounds like it would've been worth just keeping in a lock up until you fancied driving it again.

Aussie versions were a little different to UK/Euro versions afaik.

The German rs2000 is the one to have if I remember correctly.
