How about now?
See, the parts you're thinking of are not the entirety of the game. There's numerous flashbacks that detail how things went that way.
Also, I wouldn't completely dismiss XCOM yet. C&C made a very well designed transition to FPS where it even managed to maintain the system mechanics during multiplayer sessions. I don't see why XCOM couldn't do the same.
@Fer: Nah, FO3 wasn't as bad. At least it shows that they were trying.
When people mention ridiculous horror movie death scenes, all I can think of is this one:

As I've said, I'm not dismissing it completely. But cartoony 1950s style? Aliens that are nothing like the ones in the original? Come on.The game isn't out yet, though, so who knows. It's just that the content they've released so far does nothing to convince me that it'll be faithful to (or anything like) the original.
Which is okay, I guess, if it's still a good game, and yes, I know, "it's a reboot lol", but if it's called XCOM, I want XCOM.I don't think that's completely unreasonable of me.
What exactly were the aliens in the original even like? They changed it up constantly with a bunch of the games featuring different alien races (LOL CTHULU LOL). Only the first and last ones had the same aliens.
As for the setting, eh, artistic style. Considering how cheesy the series eventually got retro sci-fi seems like an appropriate fit.
I'm pretty sure when most people think of X-COM, they think of the original. That's what most of us were expecting from the new game. If they show Chryssalids and Snakemen gangraping your team in this new one, I'll fist pump like crazy. But I'm finding that unlikely to happen.
Cosmic is gonna think I'm a stalker for posting that bang on 12:00![]()
There, I watched a compilation of all the death scenes from the Final Destination movies. I'm surprised these movies are labeled as horror, when it really should be comedy.
