Word, didn't want to make a thread for it but figured hang-out is hang-out. Pretty weak shit from Gamestop in my books. Then again they gut copies in the first place. I refuse to buy anything from them that is labeled as new unless it's in the shrink wrap but then again I generally don't buy there new anyway unless they are running some kind of sick sale.

GameStop Has Removed Free OnLive ‘Deus Ex: Human Revolution’ Coupons from PC Games – Is it right?

Yesterday we reported that gamers who purchased a copy of “Deus Ex: Human Revolution” from retail outlets would receive a redemption code that could be used toward a copy of the same game on OnLive’s cloud gaming service.

Last night we began hearing reports that GameStop removed these codes from the games prior to selling them. At first it seemed as though it was just a bunch of people who didn’t like GameStop that were making these claims. However, this morning, evidence began to build, and many of our community members began reporting the same news.

We also received a copy of a letter that reported was sent out to GameStop employees on yesterday afternoon. In this letter, employees were asked to, “Please immediately remove and discard the On Live coupon from all regular PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Our desire is to not have this coupon go to any customers after this announcement.” (letter can be seen below).

GameStop removed OnLive codes

While Gamestop refused to comment on the matter at first, and OnLive claims not to know enough about the matter yet to comment, Gamespy.com received the following reply from a GameStop public relations rep, by the name of Beth Sharum.

“Square Enix packed the competitor’s coupon with our DXHR product without our prior knowledge and we did pull and discard these coupons,” explained Sharum.

What could the reason be that GameStop requested the removal of these codes? Gamestop is set to release their own streaming game technology, which figures to compete directly with OnLive in the near future. The service which uses technology from Spawn Labs which is a company acquired by GameStop back in April, promises to stream games similarly to that of OnLive.
