Well, I guess someone made it possible to "hotswap" between 3.55 CFW and 3.70 OFW on PS3. The only problem is you need to have Progskeet installed into your PS3. Here's a tutorial for installing Progskeet, and I thought JTAGing a 360 looked moderately difficult.

Think of the various OS X versions as the difference between Windows Vista, 7 and 8. Lion is the newest version, but they've phased out a lot of the backwards compatibility from the previous version. Apple were once known for using Power PC CPUs in their computers. They changed to Intel a few years ago but maintained support for old software through emulation. That's been phased out in the newest version of OS X because they want software developers to focus on developing for Intel CPUs, which is a problem if you want to use software that hasn't been updated in years.
