I think some genre of gaming has improved gradually. FPS, racing, sports. The American companies are getting better with some of their stuff, while Japan is starting to lose more and more in the American market. FPS, racing and sports are improving along with the technology of making the games more realistic, the mechanics of the games are starting to have more in common with real physics as well as looking more real.
