Ahh I remember Runescape... I got scammed so many times in that game, which was mostly my fault for being so naive and young. There are much better MMOs out there. Kind of just moved on as I got older and most of the people I played with quit. It was pretty fun though, but I would say I liked WoW more, aside from the monthly fee which I hated.
Living life without doing what you want, now that's just a recipe for misery
I used too play alot when i was young, my acc got to about 70. I really enjoyed being free, doing what you want. Also, Runescape is alot better than WoW, without a doubt.....However, i quite liked FFXI, just ashame about FFXV.
THIS....It made the rest of the map dead, well, the towns anyway. It was great having packed out general store with everyone betting ect, being able to find a decent price for weapons by travelling to different places, but now its just all in one place.....Sounds better at first, but not at all.
All in all, its java.....Go play oblivion or fable....
i like playing runescape. takes up no room on my hard drive (i have better use for it) plus i dont have to wait to download it and is only 5 dollars a month. btw i am one of those people who like to reformatt sometimes just to make sure the system stays clean. but yeah i am level 78 and my name on it is divinedragn4 (it was made in 2004)
Lol, I remember RS...
When I first played it, all I could think about was how much stuff there was to do, and all for free!... That was before I realized that after completing all of the paltry number of quests, everything else was a complete and utter grindfest.
"Walk to place. Click on the same three or four trees/outcrops about 26 times. Walk (or maybe you would have saved up enough energy to run!) to bank". Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
Hell even the combat was the same: "Click on enemy. Watch health. Eat a lobby". Maybe click once to activate a prayer ability or change weapons if you want to get really crazy!
Although some of the mini-games, especially Fist of Guthix, were fun, the core game was so incredibly shallow.
Seriously, even though World of Warcraft has a steep price (somewhat less steep now that the Battle Chest is only 20$, meaning that you basically get the first expansion for free), you get what you pay for with both games, and when you pay for WoW you get a much more refined, robust, and ultimately rewarding game. Besides, each expansion has made the game a little more newbie friendly, (especially Cataclysm) and now you can play the game for free until level 20. (You can still play once you reach the cap, you just won't get any more exp).
But if don't really want to pay, you can play Dungeons and Dragons Online or, if you want the most bang for your non-existent buck, just play League of Legends.
Lastly, when I read this thread I went on an account that I had not used since the glory days of RSbot, and there were still glitches that I remember from five years ago. 'Nuff said.

sorry but i dont like using torrents because of the downloading time on games, why would i wait along time just to play one game that i have to pay for the cd's plus membership? i am not made of money.
Well, the DL speed was usually around 1.1 Mb/s for me, which is pretty fast, and it becomes playable around 60% of the way done.
But I completely understand not wanting to shell out that kind of money, it's what kept me from playing the game for years. But that 20$ for the original game plus The Burning Crusade has enough content to satisfy you for a loooooong time. Just trust me when I say it's worth it.
And if don't trust me, trust the other 11,999,999 people who play the game.
Oh, and LoL is pretty small, so it should not be that much of an issue. Plus, it's really fun.

I'd probably play WOW, but for 180 bucks a year I could afford 2 brand new games and a whole year of xbox live. I know it has tons of content and gets new expansions and quests and stuff, but I find subscription games a desperate way for developers to suck money out of millions of peoples pockets. I also like the concept of buying something once and getting to use it as many times as you want forever (non-subscription games, dvd's).
because of my sorry ass computer, i cant seem to play runescape anymore
nor do i want to anyways, it got boring for me =/
its all about mabinogi :O
Rewardsgaming.net
I get it dude, I really do... But the subscription fee does pay for the free content patches and maintenance (both of which are not usually an issue in regular games that do not have a subscription fee), but they are definitely still making a profit on it.
WoW is one-and-only, and I find it to be one of the most rewarding video game experience. I would give the trial a whirl, and go from there (just make sure you join a decent realm).
ONTOPIC: What exactly about RS is better than WoW?
Ugh, I would rather get my balls cut off than play Runescape. I played it for about 2 hours when I was about 9 years old. It sucked phat nut sack.
I think most people like Runescape for convenience. It almost can run on about all kinds of systems, and it doesn't require downloading 11 gigabytes of game data to play (one of my major irks with WoW). You can also just jump in and play, without giving it much thought. Though this was from when I first played and it looked like this:317.jpg
The last time I played was about a year ago, so I don't really know how much it has changed. I think that the Runescape from my picture was the best (in my opinion). Back then there was no Grand Exchange, and it was just fun to run around and talk with friends. I have tried to play WoW before, but I just couldn't get into it, and I didn't enjoy it as much as I did Runescape.

like he said, rs is browser based. personally i dont like wow for the same reason i dont like black ops. its not as great as everyone makes it out to be. i am tired of games like this being dissed for graphics. it turns players away from it just because people dont like it doesnt mean you wont. what i like is the controls are simpler. plus multiple choices on how to level your character and pvp is always fun cause you get to make new friends if the person you fought is nice. and runescape is older so it has the classier feel. and i really hate how all mmo's look the same i mean, go to aeria games and download shiaya onlline and tell me the interface is different because i cant tell the difference. runescape is different. nough said.

Alright, so unless someone is genuinely interested in learning about the games I suggested, this is probably going to be my last post on the topic. It was pretty naive of me to think I would be able to convince some casual MMOers of the merits of what is considered a fairly "hardcore" MMO (I thought "each expansion has made the game a little more newbie friendly" would help, but it was probably futile to begin with). But guys, seriously League of Legends. It's free, pretty small, and tons of fun.
I should also probably mention Dungeon and Dragons Online again.
What I forgot to mention is that most people do not pay the full fee. Most people either pay by 3 months or 6 months, which is 14 and 13 dollars a month respectively. I usually pay for the 3 months that span summer break, and the three months that span winter break, then pay the 15 for whenever I know I will have time.
Also, I mentioned two other free games.
Well, WoW runs on most machines as well, and back when Blizzard had 10 day free trials they had a special "streaming" client that was small(I think it was around 40 Mb, and I'm almost positive it was less than 100). I don't know if it still exists, but I will do some Googleing and edit it in if it is still around.
But more importantly that 11 Gb is chock full of content, something that RS lacks.
Yeah, I can see the appeal. But other than running around aimlessly, all that is left is grinding. WoW offers both of those things plus actual progress and advancement with other viable options. I guess if you only want the casual side then RS is fine, but I want some actual depth in my MMO of choice.
Which means that it is forced to work within the almost debilitating confines of it's own medium and the programming language it was written in.
Well at least on THAT we can agree!
When did I ever even mention the graphics? Let alone as a negative?
I don't like the game for the what is at it's core: The available content and the gameplay mechanics.
Which is why I find it monotonous and ultimately so very boring ("Click once. Click again. Click again. Click again. Click again. Click again. etc." ad nauseum). I like having more options with my controls (and thus more tactics), especially with combat, which in WoW is astronomically more diverse. But this is just simple preference. People like what they like.
As far as I know this also in WoW... and almost every other MMO ever made.
^Can do the same thing^
Again, this is just a preference thing, but I like to make friends out of the people I battle with instead of battle against.
It certainly does look different, and the Gfx update is nice... I don't know about the rest however. Although I do think it is safe to assume that at least some of them were attempting to copy WoW... which also copied stuff from EQ and UO.
I see what you did there.
Personally, I find RS to be outdated in almost every way, and it pales in comparison to most of the free stuff that is available (Just look at all the stuff Perfect World Entertainment and Nexon put out). I guess if Drive space is really that important to you I can see the appeal, but on substance alone, I don't see it being entertaining past the age of like 12 or 13.
Well, that's my opinion, and everyone else is entitled to theirs. Hopefully someone finds all that crap that we wrote helpful.
Besides, I'm pretty sure I will drop WoW for at lest a while once The Old Republic comes out.
