I went out and grabbed some canned air, hoping there was just dust built up in a place where it shouldn't be, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference. After I aired it out, I got the TV to stay on for about 2 minutes before it popped and went off again. Piece of shit.
I've only had it for 4 or 5 years...
According to all the garbage I've sifted through on the web, it is apparently the ballast, which boosts the voltage to the lamps. It bleeds high voltage out to where it doesn't belong, and the circuit breaker designed to trip when this happens, trips. The cost to fix it is apparently enormous, although I have not been able to find an exact estimate.
I hate the idea of shopping for a new TV again. Salesmen make me want to kill things.
