I always thought it was accepted that if you try calling someone, and they don't answer, you either leave one message or you send a text. If they don't get back to you it's OK to text again again a couple of days later asking if everything's alright, but if they still don't reply, you can take that to mean they don't want to talk to you.

And likewise, if they reply to you and ask for some space, you give it to them.

Apparently this is incorrect. I'm basically being told that I should have done the exact opposite and "shown interest" by obsessively calling every hour on the hour, seeing if this person was alright and demanding they speak to me.
