That's mostly true, I pretty much grew up on Street Fighter II and III, but I did play Tekken 3 and Soul Calibur extensively when they were around. I don't know why since then 3d fighters have soured for me.
Now and days all I really play fighting game-wise is Street Fighter and SNK fighters.
Killer Instinct was awesome. I think my very first fighting game was either Street Fighter 2 or Mortal Kombat 2. I honestly forget, but I do remmeber playing MK2 as a kid and getting to fight Noob Saibot and as the round started my mother tripped over the the powercord and unplugged the SNES, childhood ruined.
Haha. And yeah I wasn't big into fighters as a kid. I didn't really even like the general concept until I'd played Super Smash bros ALL DAY EVERY DAY for like the first 3 years after it's release. Then I got to thinking, wouldn't a straight fighter be better? At some point roughly after HS I started getting into the fighter scene (watched tourn vids, practiced obsessively etc...) and into SNK stuff (esp KOF) pretty hardcore.
I'm pretty sure EVERYONE did that. When Super Smash Brothers came out, that's all ANYONE played. I wasted so much of my life on that and Melee that I don't even want to count the amount of time.
I didn't get big into fighter myself until after high school as well, then I started to count frames and all that good jazz.
First fighting game I played? Like most, Mortal Kombat on the SNES. After that, Street Fighter. Nowadays, I can't play that old shit any more. The controls are far too basic; my mom even kicks my ass in the original Mortal Kombat. However, I own in Tekken and KOF. ;>
I fancy myself good at Last Blade 2 but it's not like there is anyone to play against besides people I know irl. *shrug*
Yeah, I have the same problem too. I like to play my fighting games IRL, but it's usually just against my friends who generally aren't around my skill level.
Though I do play SSF4 online all the time, I get angry at the stuff that goes on. Essentially, you've got to adopt a different strategy for online play, things that hit in real life won't connect online and things that hit online would NEVER connect in real life for different reasons.
Yeah depends on the skill level of your opponent, mind games are huge. Plus there will be minor lag online.
