Yeah, I noticed that as well. It's always like that. Oh hey, we're not actually related by blood, so it's totally okay if I fuck your brains out!

I feel The Suffering was among the best horror games of the last gen. You pretty much spend the entire game ripping and tearing the various monsters.

And you're clearly aware of the likes of Fatal Frame and Undying. Neither of which had particularly squishy protagonists.

Condemned did a pretty good job of horror for the most part. And combat there didn't feel too one sided.

And who can possibly forget Silent Hill 3, which practically turned the series into a shooter via copying RE3's style. To the point where when it came time to do a sequel they pretty much eliminated firearms entirely due to the complaints. Hilariously, it didn't really affect the horror too much, since it was about as "scary" as the game it's a direct sequel to.

And just to go in a weird direction: Manhunt is sometimes pointed to as an extremely tense game that generates a bit of terror and uneasiness in the player. However, once you figure out how to play it you more or less turn into the predator. Cue beaning enemies with their friend's severed head and watching them freak out. But on the reverse, fucking Pigsy.

Yep, it wasn't my intention to generalize stuff. I mostly just mean Dead Space 1, which I didn't find especially scary.

But yeah, you bring up good examples. Haven't played The Suffering, though.

I also like the general concept that Fatal Frame used. Getting more points/doing more damage with the camera means you'll have to let the fucker come as close as possible. It's like the game encourages you to shit your pants.

i agree with all of the above points... a horror game should unnerve the player... make them not want to sleep at night i also like what you said about silent hill 3 i thought it had to be one of the worse ones and once you did a new game plus.... you had guns with infinite ammo talk about wanting to breeze through the game, i am yet to play manhunt i probably should get onto that

Dino Crisis. You could probably get it off PSN store.
    Also, Amnesia, and Eternal Darkness

    NOTHING.
    I don't really care either.

Although I think you may have just added evidence to a point I made previously.

The only reason the little sister incest thing is used so heavily is because so many japanese happen to lack little sisters and are often an only child.

People who actually have siblings rarely entertain that sort of idea.

Like how you probably don't think brocest is cool.

    See: Magica Madoka.
What? That was a really cute magical girl anime. And that adorable little QB running around. And Mami being all mentor like to the girls It was so lovely.

Sometimes they use it right, however.

    But other times.... it's....unsettling.

To name an example, I was playing through this terrible VN that shall remain nameless.

During the sister route, he has a flashback to a conversation he had with his mom.

Turns out, they were step siblings. And she was talking about how he might grow to have "feelings" for her, and how that was normal and okay. That he should always stay by his sister's side.

Suddenly, I WTF'd hard at the realization his (step) mom just gave him permission to boink her daughter.

Creepier still when I realize they're orphans. His mother died when he was 7.

His sister is 3 years younger, playing with the whole "older sibling is a senior, the younger is a junior" thing.

Count the number of levels to the creepiness here.

Do so. It's quite good. And ends on a pretty appropriate note.

And yet we still find instances of blood related twincest.

    Dammit japan.

    Oh wait, it's yuri twincest?

    I'll allow it.
