OnLive’s Founder and CEO, Steve Perlman told MCVUK.com:
“We expect the console to be available in retail at launch over here, but until we can say where it will be sold and how much it will cost, we’re not going to make any official announcement. We’re also talking to retailers in the US and expect it to be available in stores there soon.”
Not only does it appear as though the game system will be on sale in retail outlets in the UK, but in the US as well. Details are not all there yet, but a move to bring OnLive to retail stores such as Best Buy, Gamestop, etc would be huge for the cloud gaming company. The names of particular retail outlets or prices/dates have not yet been released. However it seems as though it is inevitable.
It appears as though retailers are beginning to take notice that technology like OnLive is the future. The retailers must decide whether or not they will help these companies such as OnLive succeed, or try and prevent it from happening. Fortunately for OnLive, there is no stopping the move to the cloud. Everything from computer documents, to music, to television and movies are moving to the cloud. They have all been successful moves. OnLive is trying to do the same for video games.
Steve Perlman noted, “They (retailers) see change as inevitable. They’re trying to get ahead of the curve, to do something interesting with us. There are lots of ways we can partner with traditional bricks and mortar retailers – such as demo units or tying us into websites. And you know what, these are the smart guys, these are the guys that are going to survive.”
