The supposed trends it points to for the "dumbing down of society" are actual social trends that go way, way, way back.
People have been making similar claims to idiocracy since the greeks. And even then, that's just one of the oldest popular ones we know about.

Also stupid violent behaviour is something humans are known for, it's nothing out of the ordinary and also the Flynn Effect says we are becoming more intelligent.
That being said intelligence tests testing for logical intelligence are not quite the same as behaving intelligently.

You're right, I never really thought about it that way. Intelligence isn't the norm in society. If it was it would be like that epsisode of Futurama where they find out Davinci was from a planet of geniuses, but just so happens to be the dumbest "genius".
