So, for example, someone with 20/40 vision can read things from 20 feet away that someone with 20/20 vision can read from 40 feet away. Conversely, someone with 20/15 vision can read something from 20 feet away that a person with 20/20 vision can read from 15 feet away. It's not an actual quantitative measurement. More of a generalization.
