I've only seen morphine as an ordered med once or twice. But that's probably because I worked in a hospital that took more acute cases, some of the "stable" floor patients would probably be in ICU rooms in other hospitals.
Hmmm. Sounds like it's honestly not worth it.

Not that I planned on getting hurt or anything.

And this is the first I've ever heard of Fentanyl. Morphine seems to be the norm from what I understand. Mine was a Drip that I could just push a button for every hour or so. It was awesome. And I was reading my wiki that I got that Appendicitis quote form and it said most Doctors don't give patients pain meds until they diagnos, but I got mine like as soon as I got in there.

    Irradiated or irritated?
And I agree. I can't take pills for the life of me. I gag on little tiny pills and just take the headache.

    No, probably not.

And as interesting as I find such things to be, I'm genuinely sorry for those of you who've had to go through some extremely unpleasant and even horrific things.

yup even those super tiny tablets for travel sickness they dont go down, so i have to crush pain pills into powder and take it on a spoon with a chaser of milk or something for the taste or grab the ones that dissolve in water

I spent two years as a student in a Level I Trauma Center, so we had some pretty interesting cases. Especially on the cardiac and orthopaedic/trauma units. The PCA pumps with morphine (which are the things with the button you push) are the only times I ever saw morphine used.

Otherwise it was usually some form of oxycodone tablet.

ah. I thought the button thing was called a Drip.
And yeh I wasn't doubting your medical knowledge. I know you're like the super smart Med student.
On that topic I may PM you about something you probably won't know anything about.

Calling it a drip isn't wrong. The type of pump used to the control the drip is simply called a PCA (at least in this hospital -- patient controlled analgesia).

A student no longer! And only a lowly nurse.

Feel free, but forgive me if I don't have an answer for you.

If it makes you feel any better, I only have a job now as a sales associate in a ladies shoe department at the mall.

I need monies to pay for my exam and my license. And loans.

So you'll still be making much, much more money than I will.
