well, its subjective I suppose. Some people really like the feeling of accomplishment and find it fun. But after I while, I agree. It might feel like work. But some games really are good with the trophies, collect them all and you have gotten the full experience of the game.
And dont forget the e-peen

I dont always find the time anymore, it can really be time consuming. And with the amount of games that come out, I do the trophies that are actually fun, sometimes its the entire game. Others, I dont want anything to do with the game after completing the campaign.

It can be done well, I agree. Like that garden gnome achievement in L4D2 that I attempted with my brother a while ago. Hilarity ensued. We ended up failing it, but the attempt itself was the fun part.
