    That must've been what happened. I just had my boyfriend turn the PS3 on for me, I didn't read the message.

    It certainly wasn't a system update, or else it would have taken about ten years to download. I didn't realize game patches would go through even if the network was down, however.

    You can update games without PSN, as the data comes from another source. I updated Rock band like 2 days after PSN went down.

    I'm not sure if they are coded onto the disc's or not, I got one last night for mortal kombat.
