Looks like it all cleared up.
During my absence, I found a burger King toy and bent it! The options were very limited, but I was able to locate a sound on the chip that was not available via the one button supplied, added a volume pot, and stuck on 2 buttons, one for high speed and one for low speed. Its pretty ugly and the sounds it produces are not really practical, but I had fun!
