That's a decent way to put it. I suppose some people forget that just because video cards are released a lot more frequently than consoles, you don't actually have to always buy the latest one.

Early video cards in a series are usually less powerful (in some aspects), than later cards in the previous series.

The thing is, you don't necessarily have to get the most high-end machine. Mine isn't one and I've been using it since early 2008. I shake my head every time I see some random smartass posting something about PC gaming forcing you to buy a computer for thousands (!) of bucks, or having to upgrade every few months. That is so not true.

I 'built' this computer with...say, $200, it has a decent processor, got another gig of RAM for $20 and I'm looking to get a 4670, which is about $100 in here.

Supposedly I can run Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2 and shit with my native res with everything jacked up, and that card is from 2008 or so. I'm starting to find out you don't have to upgrade every month unless you're changing monitors every week or something.

Only 4GB?! You need at least 8GB, a 3ghz quad core, an HD6250, AND a 7.1ch sound card. Even with those cheap-o specs, you'll still be dropping at least 10 frames per second in Wordpad.

The Microsoft assistant has a texture resolution of 30000x30000, and the model has 5 MILLION vertices! If you don't have the top stuff, you're screwed, even notepad will need to be on medium to low settings.

I have AA off in everything I play, and games look fine.
