It only really gets expensive if you buy every new video card as it comes out, or a shortly after. With an HD5670 and a 2.5ghz quad core, I'll be set for at least a couple of years.

As long as the 360 and PS3 are still the current-gen consoles, it'll be fine. Graphics on those consoles are getting more and more outdated with each year, so even a mid-range PC like mine can run the latest games without problems.

Once the new consoles start rolling out, you could think about upgrading.

Still, why must The Witcher 2 look so good, I want to run it on Medium/High settings, ARGH.

The thing is, you don't necessarily have to get the most high-end machine. Mine isn't one and I've been using it since early 2008. I shake my head every time I see some random smartass posting something about PC gaming forcing you to buy a computer for thousands (!) of bucks, or having to upgrade every few months. That is so not true.

Heres my 2 cents then,
I wouldn't go as far as thousands, nor would I say to upgrade anywhere near 'monthly'. $300 can get you damn far in all honesty.
The only reason people think that computers "become out-dated ever-so-fast" is becuase computer companies make new products that often. A CPU that runs 3.8 GHz can cost anywhere from 90-900 dollars, and both are still 3.8 GHz.

Maybe its my greedy side talking, since more money spent is supposed to equal a better product. We all know better though, its just something I want to believe.

I'd like to think the 5670 could at least run it on medium. Turning off shadows is always good for some serious framerate increases.

All I really look at with processors is the clock speed and the cache size, beyond that I really don't know enough.

It's always nice to have a few PC gamers about, though. I get to hear about things I'll probably never play, and if I'm lucky, I might even see an LP or two, which makes the experience twice as fun as it might have been playing it on my own.

Definitely. Lack of complex shadows doesn't bother me as much as the lack of detailed textures.

Well, I think I'll bite, I liked the Gears 3 Beta, and with Mass Effect 3 being delayed to 2012, I'll have spare cash to buy it.

That's a decent way to put it. I suppose some people forget that just because video cards are released a lot more frequently than consoles, you don't actually have to always buy the latest one.

If you already have a relatively new computer you can upgrade to something decent, if you need to build from nothing, it can be pricey.

I used to get all 'damn, this card I'm looking for doesn't seem to cut it for new games' when reading benchmarks and reviews.

Then I figured those were in 1920x1080 resolutions with all shit to the maximum and they said it ran choppy with 40fps. I can't tell the fps ffs, and I have a 1366x768 monitor anyway.
