It will definitely take a lot of getting used to, and more than a little bit of fiddling. While it might be a great alternative for gaming -- or even a better alternative for gaming -- it's not the end-all-to-be-all for a casual user with limited computer knowledge. I personally find that Windows is a lot more user-friendly than Linux.
Also, installing software via the terminal takes for-fucking-ever.

Then include a couple of more personal gripes, like different touchpad options that I enjoyed on Windows that I haven't been able to get with Linux yet. I like doing my little twirly-finger thing to rapidly scroll up and down pages... I kind of miss it at the moment.

I'm on Linux right now, in case that didn't make any sense. It's damn close to 4:30 in the morning, I've just made a pot of coffee and I'm going to attempt to get some work done... at the very least, set up this Rails install and see if I can't get started on my project today. Because I need to regulate my sleep schedule, and staying up all night and going to bed after the hockey game tonight seemed like a good idea when I started drinking this caffeinated beverage.

... how is "caffeinated" not a word? Fuck you, Firefox.
