Mine work on my Gamecube though.

The spare Viper chipped one doesn't get used any more, but I think it needs a pot adjustment, it DRE's on quite a few games. My chipped Cube reads Ritek discs without a problem.

I'd have been interested in buying it if it didn't DRE. My last attempt at pot tweaking a console (Dreamcast) was a disaster.

I just need a multimeter to get a correct reading. Either that, or I swap the laser from another Cube.

Is that possible? Say, I could put the laser from the Cube I just got today in it and it'd read discs fine? I heard from another guy that all GC's need the lasers tweaked before they'll read burned discs. Really put me off getting a modded Cube.

Random games give you disc read errors, it's very annoying .

You could always get a Wii . I'm pretty sure you can play copied GC games on a modded Wii.

You can, but the Wii's terrible. The £60 I'd spend on a Wii would buy me the Cube games I want original...

yeah, but you still might have to tweak the laser.

The Cube I use doesn't DRE at all, the other might not do it straight away, but later in a game. Sometimes it doesn't DRE, it's hit and miss.

I played the NTSC-U version all the way through on a PAL Cube, it never had DRE once.

I've decided I'm going to sell my 1TB Western Digital external HDD, it's been sat collecting dust since I gave up 360 piracy.
