Actually, we'd probably have more luck starting at the museum to begin with. They always seem to be finding things in their basement that were collected decades ago by someone who lacked an Identify spell or something. Let's just steal some unidentified treasure from them instead.
At least the risks in that situation are less likely to be supernatural and more likely to respond negatively to gunfire.
