It's $3.45 /gal here. I try not to let it get to me because there's really nothing I can do about it, but I think the whole system of dealing with oil/gas/fuel and the bullshiterry that goes along with speculation and the reactionary volatility in pricing is ridiculous.
They raise the price because they know people will still pay for it, and there really is nothing anyone can do about it aside from riding a bike or buying an electric car, which most people can't/won't do. I wonder how long it will take before the majority of vehicles are powered by something other than fossil fuels? Because this is some bullshit. It's only gonna keep rising in price, too, just like last time.
There's never going to be mass produced electric cars here that the masses can afford, or are practical, because too many people make too much money off oil. They are the ones who are ultimately in control of what gets introduced to the public, and doing so would effectively destroy their business model.
That's exactly it. It reminds me of that documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? It's infuriating to realize that all these alternative fuel technologies get bought out by the car and oil companies and basically shelved for no reason other than to increase their profit margins. But as one person there's really not much you can do about it at the end of the day, giant corporations control this country now.
I saw that documentary, speaking of engines, I always thought the quasiturbine engine looked pretty cool although it hasn't been used in anything other than go karts and chainsaws.
There's a lot of good things going on in new technologies for other energies, but, they fit into the current business models for those industries. Wind and solar can generate electricity, and the established entities currently producing electricity can still be the ones to offer their product to the public, so they are taking the new technologies and putting them into production. Not so with the auto industry. They would be shifting from the oil industry and giving (theoretically) all the cars to the electric industry.
You can bet they'll kill every idea they can get their hands on.
How much money do you spend on petrol?
alrighty, part 1 done. on to part to until I get tired or too hungry to be awake
I don't think it's just a coincidence that a more efficient engine isn't replacing the standard internal combustion engines either.I'm sure it will become the new standard once it's perfected for cars though, it will just take some time. At least that's what I hope.
I also heard the other day that standard 100 watt incandescent bulbs are going to become illegal to sell in 2012 in the US, to improve energy efficiency. They're only going to sell the lower wattage incandescent bulbs and the CFL lights.
