The man running Coca-Cola (GmbH), Max Keith, found himself with a problem when the war interrupted supplies of the necessary ingredients to make the famous Coca-Cola syrup.
Having let Coke HQ in Atlanta know that he would do his best to keep the business running in Germany and the occupied territories in the rest of Europe, Keith set his employees the task of creating a new drink, which was eventually named Fanta.
Despite containing everything from cheese to apple fibre in the earliest formula, Fanta was popular enough to sell more than three million cases throughout the Third Reich.
In 1960, Coke formally acquired Fanta.
