Default The WiFi connection ive been using is...well...gone

So ive been using my neighbors WiFi for a few weeks with no problems (except a low connection %). Yesterday i was surfing the net, and the power filckered off and back on real quick. I lost the connection, and figured it was due to their router cutting off. I restarted my lappy, and all the other connections were showing up, but the one ive been using is gone. And again today, its not there. This wouldnt be a problem if the other ones werent password protected. So, is there anything i can do on my end, or is this something the owner will have to deal with? Its reaaly not that big of a deal cause my internet is supposed to be activated tomorrow, its just really buggin me.

It sounds like they switched off their router. Were they aware that you were using it?

It is a possibility. Or they could be gone for the week, and turn stuff off when they leave.

I hate it when that happens! XD I never bother on why I always turn off my PC, router, modem, and basically every electronics around. I may sometimes have a blackout, or maybe I want to protect my stuff. They are not cheap, you know. Even if you have a reliable battery back-up, it still a good idea to turn them off.

    BTW, I have a Wi-Fi connection problem, but I don't think it's the router's fault. Lately, my other PC's Wi-Fi connection has failed. My PC is a desktop without Wi-Fi card. So I have to use an adaptor. The thing is I tried a lot of adaptors, and still will not work. I set up the connection perfectly, but no connection. I suspected the reason may be that I delete something that is crucial for Wi-Fi connection, or maybe the Internet connection in general. My PC was attacked by Trojans and other viruses, and McAfee picks it up immediately. I deleted on what is harming my PC . . . but at the same time, I may deleted my connection. ;

So . . . how am I suppose to fix it? Which programs are crucial for Internet connection, or is there a way to fix the problem easily?

There's many problems with this =P but can be fixed:

    Stuff you should do:
+ I recommend you get rid of McAfee, as it has been reported to be useless/malware itself =P BUT i could be wrong
+ Get a firewall installed if you don't already have one.
+ Check to see if you have a drivers disc for the adapters, if not search on Google to see if you need a driver
+ Remove/Uninstall any of your adapter's programs/drivers so that we can start fresh =]
+ Disable any other internet connections that are enabled on your computer
+ Virus scan, a must. I recommend AVG.
+ Run a scan through Spybot Search & Destroy (Download here)
+ Run CCleaner Registry Cleaner (Download CCleaner here)

Than after that reinstall the adapter (with the drivers if you need them) you would like to use, than see if it works =]

    IF It doesn't work:
Can you tell me your PC specs and what adapters you are using?

Hmm . . . I do suspected it may be that McAfee is not the right choice for Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware program. It fail to noticed a Trojan that looks like an Anti-Virus program. I guess that started it all.

CCleaner is not a free program, and trial version will last a short time. Should I still use that?

I heard that WinSockFix XP may work. Should I consider using that?

Well, I will try those steps. I really hope it works.

What are you talking about? My Wi-Fi connection on my other PC is gone. So that makes it on topic.

CCleaner is free, it always has been. You just have the option of donating. =P (Here's the actual download link)

    WinSockFix seems reliable =]

I didn't know that. Well, I guess I'll use that.

The source of the problem I figured would be the registery. I think the Internet service must of certain registeries present. So if CCleaner doesn't work, I may have to use WinSockFix XP.
