    1. I'm missing the simplicity. Seeing everything as an angular shaped 1kb 2d-image forced you to let your imagination take over the rest. Today's graphics are preventing you from that. So now I'm just seeing some pretty environment I could also see by walking through a park or something. Seeing everything happen in Your(!) fantasy, that was awesome.

    2. Unfortunately the original Survival-Horror genre died somehow. When I think of Survival-Horror, I'm thinking of running as Chris through a mansion full of hunters, having a (bad & ) sudden camera change, definitely not enough ammunition and some damn puzzles to solve. Today, the camera follows you, there are no puzzles at all, and actually your task is only to shoot hordes of infected people, monsters or whatever. That's maybe fun, but no horror.

It does seem that Silent Hill is one of the very few good and scary horror games left. At least mainstream ones. Yume Nikki made me shit my pants, but that's an independent game.

    Agree x1000

New machines back then were lightyears ahead of the last gen. Nowadays, same shit, but now YOU CAN SEE THE GRASS! No major improvements graphics wise. Which is nintendos reasoning for the wii. Graphics dont mean diddly squat, lets make new gaming experiences. Good move!

You obviously just had short and crappy games. Rest of us were playing Good ones.

Personally, i miss having to make a very good choice when choosing what game to play, as 5 minute load times ruled the roost of my childhood. Now i can flip through live arcade/psn titles in seconds, and can never make my mind up. Or the anticipation of waiting for hours, downloading a multi disk amiga game over 4800 baud modem. Now i can download a 10gig game in 30 minutes.

Also, 2D. Still used from time to time, and usually Beautiful when it is (super street fighter hd remix for example). But not used anywhere near enough.

Thanks for your timem I'll be over here with my vectrex and rose tinted glasses thank you!

I miss how games were simple and were easy to pick up and play. Now games have in-game tutorials to tell you how to do something. Of course if you've been playing games forever, then you don't really need the tutorials, but still. Also, I hate how games have these long ass intros, I wanna play the game, not wait 5-10 minutes before I can actually play the game. This is usually more of problem with big RPGs like Final Fantasy. Yeah there are some games today where you can skip the intor or stroy and start playing, like GTA for example. At least we have emulation to re-live the classics.

I haven't played those games, but that's what I'm ttalking about. Games don't need those long ass intros or tutorials. That's what the game manual is for. Also, after playing around for just a few mins, you should have the controls down, unless the controls are bad, or they are really confusing.

How high off the ground is your goddamned bed? Or did you just drop it off your bed and out the window of your third story apartment?

I have to say I miss cartridge gaming just because it's fun to collect carts, and also because it meant less moving parts in the systems, so less console fuckups. I'm not going to pretend like the old consoles were all golden though; the original NES design was retarded.

I generally try not to subscribe to the school of "it's easier, therefore it sucks," but I wish health/health packs would come back to FPS games, or shooters in general. Regenerating health is just kinda dumb.

Mostly I miss being young enough that every game I played I thought was amazing. Like, when I was a kid I loved Hook for the SNES. Definitely didn't age well.

What I miss most about games is actually having to figure out how to play a game on my own. What I mean is,and dont get me wrong I really like newer games its just they are so easy. They tell you what to do "go here and press X" "run to this highlighted wall and press A to climb over wall" "press X to land" (after falling through a floor) Games didnt used to prompt you,you figured it out on your own.And if you died a few times in the process,it was good practice.LOL

I'm going to agree on this... to a degree.

Like, let's look at some AVGN shit: Milon's Secret Castle. You are NOT figuring that out with what you're given in the game. A lot of games in that era were like that, too.

There's definitely a happy medium though, and I'll agree a lot of modern games tend to cross it.

Fuck the old days, apart from the few great games the majority was absolute dog shit.

Now days we still only have a few gems, but at least the rest of the games are not complete ass, overall quality of games has improved by miles.

You can shove Mario up your ass, i'll take Crysis 2 any day.
