I just installed Avast! I put it on my parents' PC earlier and I like it, it does a lot more than Antivir does.

If you turn off the sounds it pretty much does that. I just download it every couple of months and install it whenever I need to scan a file, it doesn't eat up a whole lot of resources if you aren't scanning though.
