The wiimote the worst accessory?![]()
I gotta take issue with some of these. The GBA was a monster of a system with some of the best handheld games (both of the era and in general) released for it and by the standards you're using for the bongo drum, every rhythm game instrument should be on the list (and some of those didn't even make it to two games).
I think his problem was with the word "accessory" as it is'nt an accessory, mearly the Normal controller. Same goes for the GBA, not an accessory, a console. It was'nt something you buy to add to the system.
The rest of the things on the list i will completely agree with, except the bongo drums can be used for 5 games. Donkey Konga, Donkey Konga 2, Donkey Kong Jungle beat (all on gamecube), and donkey kong jungle beat : new play system, and donkey kong barrel blast, both on wii. Personally, i thought jungle beat was great fun. A platformer that you play with bongos? I want some of the drugs the game designers were smoking on that one. It worked really well however, so much so that playing the remake with the wiimote and nunchuck just feels wrong. so i plug the bongos back in.
The 64DD, i believe, could have done well, but nintendo themselves nerfed that one. They thought it would do badly, so pretty much only distributed it via a randnet subscription service. The mario artist series alone would have sold that thing the world over. Hours of my life have been wasted in polygon studio. Its a nice fun waste of time. the interface worked suprisingly well for a games console.
Unfortunatly, For a lot of people, its the "Cool" thing to do, along with playing COD, Calling Nintendo a kiddie company, and owning an iPhone or a macbook.
All of which just confirm that you are, infact, a trend following, pretentious douchebag. Now, this is a mass generalisation, and i am by no means calling kouen a douchebag, just a VERY high percentage of the people of people who indulge in the above practices, are.
Who am i kidding, I am just a bitter old man, who remember the Sega/Nintendo wars of the past, with only atari nipping at their heels, Distributing amiga games by BBS at 4800 baud, waiting 5 minutes for a game to load off tape, and being allowed to smoke whilst playing pacman at the local arcade.
Nintendo is the only REAL gaming company left, sod all these young whipper snappers with their xboxes, playstations and graphics cards.
Dont mind me, i'll be over here in the 80's
I do so adore subtlety.
Frankly, I find this specific argument highly tiresome. Okay, I might not like Nintendo overmuch these days, so this makes me the one who picked the 'cool' thing to hate? Since when was it necessary to define myself by hatred? I don't think it's 'cool' to dislike something. I just dislike it and move on. Nintendo has done an enormous amount for videogaming, no doubt about that. I love quite a few of the games they've put out, and even some they only recently have put out, but Nintendo, to me, is pulling a few things that I don't particularly like much.
One: ENDLESSLY picking the safe option when it comes to releasing new games. Mario. Metroid. Zelda. Done. Yes, I realise that this is great, given that those games have a fanbase the size of bloody JUPITER, but they're beginning to grate. Not with the new games they release, but with the old games they re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release. How often, by now, have we seen Nintendo release the "Mario All-Stars" collection? About 72 times? And people still re-buy it as if they're buying solid bloody gold. Yeah, those games were great. Moving ON. New mario/zelda/metroid games don't see the same dislike from me because, by and large, they're usually solidly-designed, fun games.
Two: Their hardware division seems to be focused a BIT too much on the gimmicky side nowadays. "New console? New gimmick!" I'm not saying it's bad, per se. The Wii was a huge success (though I dislike it personally. I just don't like the motion sensor tech), and the DS has some great games with the dual screen tech. However, at the same time, the Wii is also one of the least played consoles. It sells well, it's played for about two weeks, and then never gets touched again by a majority. I think this is due to the same issue that I have with the device - it's just a bit too focused on the gimmick of motion sensor tech.
So yes, Nintendo has a great deal to say in favour of itself, but it also has its own bad sides, just like Sony and Microsoft. I don't think I'm 'cool' for hating Nintendo, and all I do is dislike their strategy.
Now, to haul this thing back on-topic - technically you could argue that the GBA was an accessory as well, because in a move of BLATANT money-sucking, they made the GBA linkup with the Gamecube console mandatory for some games. Crystal Chronicles with more than one player, for example, required each player to have his or her own GBA to function as a controller. Completely arbitrary, daft decision that really stank of "let's milk this cash-cow for all we're worth!"
Hey Hey Hey lash, like i said in my post, Its a MASS generalisation. You obviously have some intelligence over the "itz 4 teh kiddez!!!!! lollollol!!!!!!11111" That you see all too often. Thats what my point was. The youngsters who think that playstation started gaming, and never saw anything before it. Never really saw 2d gaming at its height, 3d is everything, and nintendo is "teh ghey".
Like i said, to this generation, im an old man. And as such, i love older games. To me, gaming is an escape, a fantasy. I own literally NO realistic games at all. Racing sims? bah, closest i get is burnout. FPS's. An ak47? An RPG? Nah, i'll take this plasma cannon and railgun thanks.
Anyway, your right, back on topic.
Quiji, You have obviously never played goldeneye with the dual pad setup, still, to this day, my personal favorite console fps control setup ever!
And a new one for the thread. Gameboy Camera and printer.
Why yes, i would love to take pictures of things in 4 shades of grey and print them on a postage stamp. Thats definatly worth my cash.
(thats sarcasm btw, for any americans reading)
Fair enough. I tend to respond too quickly to my personal pet peeves anyway, my bad. And give me that printer. My mum would love a Me-Themed postage stamp.![]()
Honestly, when the original GBA came out, that thing was the shit!
It had no backlight, but at that time nothing did, so there was nothing better than it to compare to. Its like saying the NES was shit, only becuase the SNES was better.
The GBA had greatly improved the screen of any handheld. If anything the DS is crap, because I can't play my GB games when it is more than capable of doing so.
If im honest, i would'nt have a clue where it is now. A load of my old stuff went into storage a long time ago. Cant bear to get rid of them though, somewhere with it will be an a6 thermal printer for a speccy, that prints on silver paper. So Futuristic!
As for the topic, how about the extremely limited edition Virtual Console Gamepads? Not pointless or bad per se, but WAY expensive, and impossible to get hold of. Seems rather pointless to me. Although i cannot be sure if they were an actual nintendo product or not.
Also, you know what? I would absolutley LOVE to see a new R.O.B. it could be done so well now. A robosapien kind of device that you could strap a wiimote to. Gotta be good for a laugh. I must admit im a bit of a sucker for pointless peripherals. Boxes full of the bastards.
Its not a nintendo product, but the space ORB 360 gamepad, that was very Odd. There was also pads called the turbo touch 360 that were released for multiple systems that had the D-Pad replaced with a touch sensitive octagon. Worked quite well for streetfighter funnily enough. I could do the 360 piledriver on that thing.

N64 was one of the best systems ever. and nintendo didnt become a kiddie company until they released the ds. i mean look at conkers bad fur day on n64. no way is that kiddie. or the resident evil games on gamecube. fantastic games. not kiddie. hundreds of "make your own cake", "own your own pet", and puzzle games on the ds? yea those are kidde
