So, I got back to where I was in Mass Effect 2, while stopping the game and doing a manual backup of the gamesave after each level. Tedious, but necessary. Until the official fix is released, Bioware has suggested 'not playing for extended periods of time' without turning off the game and restarting...which I think is hilarious and sad at the same time.

It's good to see the ME3 engine's bugs being worked out before the new game comes out though.
