Yeah, I see nothing wrong with liking anime when you're older. I mainly meant all the batshit crazy stuff you've just mentioned.

Edit: Although, those are exactly the people who give the more casual/mature/normal anime watchers (like myself or you) a bad name. So I tend not to mention that I occasionally watch anime around other people.

    3. Insist that your e mail address is: [email protected] [email protected].
    4. Every time someone asks you to do something, ask if they want fries with that.
    5. Encourage your colleagues to join you in a little synchronized chair dancing.
    6. Put your garbage can on your desk and label it "IN."
    7. Develop an unnatural fear of staplers.
    8. Put decaf in the coffee maker for 3 weeks. Once everyone has gotten over their caffeine addictions, switch to espresso.
    9. In the memo field of all your checks, write 'for sexual favors.'
    10. Reply to everything someone says with, "That's what you think."
    11. Finish all your sentences with "In accordance with the prophecy."
    12. Adjust the tint on your monitor so that the brightness level lights up the entire work area. Insist to others that you like it that way.
    13. Dont use any punctuation
    14. As often as possible, skip rather than walk.
    15. Ask people what sex they are. Laugh hysterically after they answer.
    16. Specify that your drive-through order is "to go."
    17. Sing along at the opera.
    18. Go to a poetry recital and ask why the poems don't rhyme.
    19. Find out where your boss shops and buy exactly the same outfits. Wear them one day after your boss does. (This is especially effective if your boss is of the opposite gender.)
    20. Send e-mail to the rest of the company to tell them what you're doing. For example, "If anyone needs me, I'll be in the bathroom, in Stall #3."
    21. Put mosquito netting around your cubicle. Play a tape of jungle sounds all day.
    22. Five days in advance, tell your friends you can't attend their party because you're not in the mood.
    23. Call 911 and ask if 911 is for emergencies.
    24. Call the psychic hotline and don't say anything.
    25. Have your co-workers address you by your wrestling name, Rock Hard.
    26. When the money comes out of the ATM, scream "I Won!", "I Won!" "3rd time this week!!!"
    27. When leaving the zoo, start running towards the parking lot, yelling "Run for your lives, they're loose!"
    28. Tell your boss, "It's not the voices in my head that bother me, its the voices in your head that do."
    29. Tell your children over dinner. "Due to the economy, we are going to have to let one of you go."
    30. Every time you see a broom, yell "Honey, your mother is here!"
    I laughed, a lot.

I did my share of cosplay back when I was young, but it was simple, not too overly "what the fuck is his problem" things. Off the top of my head I can remember dressing up as Matrix Reloaded Neo (an aunt did the whole jacket-cape thing, it was awesome. It was warm during winter and my aunt picked a fabric to repel water or something, I worn it once to go to school (without the glasses and the rest of the outfit of course. ) it rained and I kept myself dry and safe ), Ralf from KOF (really, cargo pants, a vest, sleeveless shirt and a bandana isn't that weird to get) and the most elaborate one was Snake from MGS3, aside from wearing an all camo outfit, everything was easy to get.

You can like anything at any age really, recreational time should be spent doing what you enjoy most afterall. I mean hell, we're all gamers here aren't we? I'm pretty sure I'll always be gaming, because that's just something I enjoy.. But I dunno how many times in the past I've heard people mention it to me like it's something they expect only kids to do.

Anime is no different than any other media, you don't need to be crazy to watch it .

People like to categorize with age, all my friends used to play Yu-Gi-Oh, now they pretend like there is no way they could enjoy it and that anyone that plays a card game needs to grow up. A lot of people also seem to think that playing RPGs is for kids too.

I wear badges in my schoolbag, I had one with an L (you know from where) on it and a few days ago, a girl at school was like. :O ZOMFG You watch anime?
    - Yeah, a little?
    - You don't look like a guy who watches anime, you're all clean and well-dressed up. And you don't creep me out.
    -

Seriously, that made my day. I get the same reaction when people say: "You like video games? You don't look like someone who does".

I'm nearly 40 and I still like some classic anime.
Mostly GITS, Appleseed, Ninja Scroll, Akira and some of Hayao Miyazaki's films.
I've always preferred anime films over tv shows.......but I like all the GITS stuff.

    Spoiler warning:

Being batshit insane and annoying about something is okay when you're a kid. Some people don't get past that point and act like kids when they're all grown up, I'm not saying it's wrong or something, it's just that it gets uncomfortable to be around them.

Yeah, but you enjoy it as a medium of entertainment. You don't live your life being all cocky about what animes are superior and worse, telling everyone that they're wrong for liking what they like because you're a otaku master or something.

And I'm not the one to judge, I mean, look at my display and sig. Just friendly reminders or opinions, that's all.

I think people need to stop acting like "growing up" is some epic phase in life. You get more mature as you age (hopefully, in one way or another) sure, and that's great. But that doesn't change that you're human and that you like doing certain things. In all honesty I don't feel that different now than I did maybe ten years ago.. I feel I've grown as a person and matured a lot, sure, but I still feel like me and I still enjoy most of the same things I'd say. I'm not going to pretend I don't like something or stop doing something and phase it out of my life just because of some arbitrary concept of having "grown up."
